Does anyone feel as if they’ve been waiting for-ever for The Bachelor 2019 to start?
Us too, guys. Us, too.
But the wait is finally over – and not a second too soon…

Matt Agnew is smart (astrophysicist), hot (hey, daddy!) and ready for love.
“I’m looking for a best mate in life, a real equal partner to share life with. Being in a relationship is like being in a team and it’s you and them versus the world.“
“The gravity of what I’m about to embark on is really starting to sink in now,” he tells Osher Gunsberg, who’s back for another round of helping true love blossom.
“This is obviously going to be a really fun and exciting adventure but I appreciate that there’s going to be real emotions involved in all of this and that’s something I don’t take lightly. I just need to be open, respectful of the women, and only stay true to myself. Hopefully that’ll lead me to find the love of my life.”
Coming in hot is first cab off the rank is Helena. Could she be Matt’s one and only?
“I’m actually just looking to meet someone I can spend the rest of my life with. It’s really as simple as that,” she explains, kicking off a cute, chemistry-filled convo with the doctor.
“I want to date a man, not a boy.”
And Helena’s definitely keen (but we knew she would be, right?).
“He’s everything I could have hoped for. I definitely got flutters. I’m excited.”
Us too, girl!
In rocks Abbie – and while they say curls get the girls, it’s her tresses that catch Matt’s attention.
“I actually love the curls. It looks absolutely stunning,” he swoons of the stunner’s ‘do, before she makes that astrology crack we’ve all been dying to see play out in full.
Meanwhile, Nurse Elly Miles has “wifey” written all over her (just listen to that winner music in the background as she makes her grand entrance).
The nurse from NSW’s Newcastle sets Matt’s heart alight instantly with what could be the cutest intro we’ve ever seen.
“I just want him to get a little taste of what I’m all about, and give him a bit of an idea of what he’s in for with me,” she explains, leading the hottie to a fire that she reveals she’s lit herself so the pair can toast marshmallows together.
“I grew up on a farm, very much a country girl. And, you know, growing up, my favourite memories as a kid was camping and fishing and being outdoors, and so I thought I’d give you a little bit of a taste of that tonight,” she tells him.
As the rest of the ladies arrive, there are marriage proposals (hi, Rachael) a, er, surprise pregnancy (courtesy of Matt’s sex eyes for Vakoo, apparently!)… but it’s at the cocktail party where things heat up. And, let’s be real, this is what we came for.
“Everyone deserves to give each other respect and, you know, have a decent amount of time with Matt,” insists sweetheart Elly – but you know it’s not happening!
“They’re just not being polite. They’ve literally had a minute. Look at that. Obviously, I’d really like to get him one-on-one, have a bit of a chat, but I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. I just want to be respectful.”
But Helena, on the receiving end of a rude interruption, isn’t so forgiving.
“I think this is a bit of a sick joke. Barely had any time to speak to him, or make an impact, and I’m really, really pissed off,” she spits after Hannah makes Helena’s alone time a trio.
“I knew I was going to be up against girls, so it’s hard, it’s challenging, it’s tough, it’s exhausting, but Hannah completely destroyed it.”
With the night wearing on, the girls have two things on their minds: The First Rose… and The Golden Ticket, which gives its recipient a ticket to Matt’s hometown of Melbourne.
“This golden ticket is a single date where one of the girls gets to go on this date with Matt to his hometown in Melbourne and it would be a massive advantage but I think it’s anybody’s game at this point,” shrugs Elly.
Which is kind of ironic because, guess what… ELLY GETS THE GOLDEN TICKET!
And, wait – what?!
STOP EVERYTHING!
Elly gets the first rose, too!
“Elly, when you stepped out of that limo tonight, you took my breath away,” Matt gushes to his favourite girl.
“You give me butterflies but at the same time you make me feel very, very relaxed. It feels like we’ve known each other for a long time. I’m really enjoying getting to know you and I want that to continue because I think there could be something really special here. So, Elly, it’d be my pleasure if you would, uh, accept this golden ticket, um, to come back and see some wildlife in Melbourne.”
“I’m so excited. I’m bloody nervous,” gushes Elly. “But most of all, I’m just really happy that I get to get to know him a little bit better away from everyone and, you know… yeah, I’m so excited. I can’t wait to get to see a bit of Victoria!”
It’s not good news for everyone though, as we say goodbye to two ladies who – to be fair – we didn’t really say hello to in the first place.
Going home without a rose or a piece of Bachie Matt’s heart are Sophie Oddo and Keely Spedding.
It’s unlikely Sophie’s worried, though. “I don’t believe I need to be married to be happy,” she’s previously quipped.
