Mayim Bialik is slamming United Airlines’s lack of “humanity” after she claims that she was denied boarding one of their flights.
The Big Bang Theory actress took to Twitter on Sunday to complain that after running through the airport to make her flight, a crew member refused to let her board the plane because her carry-on luggage wouldn’t fit, but allegedly let other passengers on.
“To the @UnitedAirlines flight attendant who shut the boarding gate in my face. I made my connecting flight in Houston,” Bialik wrote in a one of several tweets about the incident. “It was a tight squeeze but you said there were plenty of open seats. When you saw my carry on suitcase you said there was no room and shut the door in my face.”
Bialik then went on to say she ran through the airport in an attempt to make her flight, only to be turned away at the gate.
“@UnitedAirlines I ran for 10 min to make the flight you made me late for with your delays,” she continued. “This is about humanity. She didn’t even say she was sorry. I’m sorry I flew your airline. Thanks for booking me on a later flight. But right now she needs to remember we are all human.”
The actress also claimed that five other passengers — each of whom she says also had a carry-on — were allowed to board the flight.
“And also why couldn’t my little suitcase somehow fit?” she wrote. “Maybe the first class seat I was supposed to sit in could have held it and I would have gladly sat in all of the open seats anywhere on that plane. :(“
In a fourth follow-up tweet, Bialik continued, “And there were five other people from my flight standing there with me who she let on the plane. Maybe she just doesn’t like The Big Bang Theory. They all had carry-on luggage too.”
Bialik then turned to Instagram to elaborate on the situation, sharing a selfie in the airport and a photo of her roller bag. She admitted she “barely made” her connecting flight due to previous plane delays, and expressed again how upset she was that she was turned away at the boarding door, despite the flight attendant reportedly claiming there were “plenty of seats” on the plane.
“I understand everything was shut but that lady stewardess didn’t have to shut the boarding door like she did in my face without even saying she was sorry. Or with 7 min left she could have made a small effort to try harder since she said there were ‘plenty of seats open.’”
“Maybe she hates The Big Bang Theory. Maybe she was having a bad day. Maybe she hates women who look like they’re going to cry,” Bialik continued. “Now my suitcase is broken from running so hard and aggressively, my asthma is super angry and random people think I’m a prima donna because as she shut the door I said ‘I have a first class seat!’ I didn’t mean I deserve it more, I meant can my suitcase sit in my first class seat and I’ll sit anywhere else? Not a good day for me and @united.”
A representative for United told WHO in a statement that they were able to re-book Bialik on a different flight to L.A. that same evening: “We were able to get Ms. Bialik on the next flight to Los Angeles last night and we are reviewing what happened with our team in Houston.”
