Billy Bob Thornton spoke candidly to GQ about his bond with ex-wife Angelina Jolie and discusses why the two actors couldn’t make it work.
“I never felt good enough for her,” the Bad Santa 2 actor told the magazine.
The 61-year-old revealed that Jolie’s passion for global politics and humanitarian causes — apparent during their marriage— got in the way with his slow-paced lifestyle. Thornton claims he opted to stay at home or watch sports.
When he did attend to her busy schedule of charitable events, he said the couple’s largest issue was that he felt odd around the 41-year-old’s famous friends. “I’m real uncomfortable around rich and important people,” he said.
Thornton still has a tattoo of Jolie’s name on his leg and one on his arm that’s partially covered by an angel. “See, it’s just resting there,” he said. “You can still see the name.”
The former lovers are remain friends and talk every few months, however the Maleficent actress, 41, is busy these days with her six children.
Jolie and Thornton were married from 2000 to 2003. Jolie went on to marry and divorce Brad Pitt, with whom she shares six children – Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.
