The new Mr and Mrs Powell – aka Chandler Powell and Bindi Irwin – have spoken out for the first time since tying the knot in an intimate ceremony just hours before strict wedding restrictions came into force amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In the clip, shared on Discovery.com and the Animal Planet Instagram, Bindi said it was “incredible” to get to finally call her long-term boyfriend her husband.
“Oh my goodness, can you believe it, you’re my husband, we’re married,” the 21-year-old says as the clip begins.
“Today has been enormous. Our wedding planning journey has been quite epic,” she continued.
The pair got engaged on Bindi’s birthday in July last year. Though though they were set to wed later in the year, they pushed the date up to Wednesday, March 25. The ceremony was held just hours before the government’s wedding restrictions were put in place to help curb the spread of coronavirus.
For the foreseeable future, weddings can now only consist of a maximum of five people; the couple, the celebrant and witnesses.
“We feel for everybody around the world during this current world crisis,” Bindi said. “These are such challenging times we’re facing right now, but we have to band together and remember that love always wins.”
“We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding. This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe.”
“We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos. Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history.”
In an emotional Instagram post just hours after her wedding, Bindi revealed the touching way she paid tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin on her big day.
“Today we celebrated life and revelled in every beautiful moment we shared together in our Australia Zoo gardens,” she wrote.
“Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory.
