Carrie Bickmore has paid tribute to her late husband Greg Lange, sharing a rare photo of their son, Ollie, 8, on social media. Rugged up for the chilly Melbourne winter, Ollie is sporting a custom-made beanie, which Carrie is selling to raise money for her charity, Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer.

“Ollie rocking his beanie in honour of Greg. We have been overwhelmed by the response from everyone. Completely blown away. The beanies are flying off the shelves.”

Bickmore, 35, and Lange were married from 2005 to 2010, when Greg lost his battle with brain cancer. Award-winning journalist Bickmore has since become an advocate for those struggling with the debilitating disease and founded Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer after an impassioned plea during her 2015 Gold Logie acceptance speech.

Speaking of Lange, “He was an incredibly brave man, and a great dad,” she told the crowd gathered at Crown Casino.

“Everyone thinks this is a rare form of cancer and it’s not,” she said. “It kills more kids than any other disease.

Since the death of her husband, the host of The Project, has often spoken of the struggles those diagnosed with brain cancer face.

“I don’t think people realise the mental and physical impact that it has on people, on patients, over a long period of time as the disease progresses,” she said on the show in 2013.

Bickmore has put her rising celebrity to good use. Last year she organised a charity concert, BrainBeats, in Melbourne with guest artist Ed Sheeran to raise funds for her foundation. She has since found love again with producer Chris Walker, and their daughter, Evie, was born in March last year.
