- Carrie Bickmore has bravely faced one of her biggest fears on live radio when she was confronted with a live snake in studio.
Carrie and her radio co-host, Tommy Little, are currently facing challenges as part of a promotion for the new Disney film, Jungle Cruise on their show.
In a few weeks’ time, they’ll be headed into the jungle together with not much to arm them against the elements, but they will be able to take a short list of things if they ‘survive’ challenges on-air in the meantime.
Today, however, The Project co-host was confronted with one of her worst fears – a massive snake shoved right in her face.
Carrie, whose phobia of snakes became very obvious very quickly, was surprised by an animal handler entering the studio while she and Tommy were live on air.
Videos on social media show her visibly distressed and pulling away from the animal.
A photo on the radio show’s Instagram shows her crying while the snake is placed on her shoulders.
The backlash in the comments was swift.
“That was absolutely horrible to hear the distress from Carrie on the show. Reason like this I don’t watch some shows. It’s not funny to trigger someone’s fears for the sake of entertainment,” one follower wrote.
“The genuine distress and fear noises coming from Carrie were really tough to listen to 😢 I hope you’re ok xx,” another person said.
“Yeah sorry guys but hearing Carrie’s absolute distress, tears and fear really upset me. That was so hard to listen to. 😢😢,” another wrote.
“Sorry, can’t like this at all. That is just cruel for someone who is obviously terrified of snakes. I really feel for you Carrie 😢,” said a fourth.
Some comments offered encouragement for Carrie’s bravery in holding the snake.
“Oh dear! @bickmorecarrie, you go girl! Face your fears for the better!” a kind person wrote.
“Poor Carrie but you’re a legend for overcoming your fears,” another added.
Although the event was distressing, it means Carrie and Tommy will now have sleeping bags for their camping trip.
The jungle challenge, titled ‘Fun-Gal in the Jungle’, will see them face various challenges over the coming weeks, although we hope none are quite this distressing for poor Carrie.
Unlike his co-host, Tommy seemed very at ease with the snake, even posing for a relaxed-looking photo with the animal.
