You go, girl! Aussie comedian and all-round awesome chick Celeste Barber has smashed her latest fundraising goal for the bushfires.

A week after creating the page through Facebook’s donations platform, Celeste has amassed an incredible $50 million-plus in relief funds, which are set to be divided amongst various people and groups affected by the country’s devastating bushfires.
The Insta-joker-turned-global-superstar has been continually revising her fundraising goal as each number gets smashed out of the park thanks to generous people around the world reaching into their pockets – and with the amount raised already sitting at $200,000 MORE than the $50 mill target (and constantly climbing), we wouldn’t be surprised to see it hit all-new highs within days.
Celeste’s efforts and the public’s generosity are beyond incredible – not only due to what the money will mean to those most affected by Australia’s worst bushfire season ever, but also because her Facebook fundraiser has become the largest in the social media platform’s history.
Speaking to Weekend Sunrise, Paull Young from Facebook’s Non Profit sector told hosts Matt Doran and Monique Wright:
“She’s raised close to $50 million Australian dollars, from 1.2 million individual donors.
“If you imagine every single person in Adelaide giving to one fundraiser, that’s what has happened here.”
Of course, since then the 37-year-old smashed her $50m target, and is still going strong, taking to Instagram to share the news with the caption: “Power to the people.”
The star’s husband, Api Robin, shared a photo of a grateful Celeste breaking down in tears as the donations continued to roll in.
The fundraiser kicked off on Friday, January 3, when Instagram queen Celeste posted a Facebook fundraiser, and later shared a video of her furious mother-in-law, Joy Robin, being evacuated at Eden Wharf, slamming the government’s inadequate response.
“This is our war. This fire is Australia’s war at the moment … it’s going right to the coast. And there isn’t one ADF on the ground, and that’s what we want,” Robin stormed.
Within hours, the fundraising post had been shared thousands of times worldwide by Barber’s 6.4 million followers, and 754,000 donations had flooded in.
