Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson set for ‘Men in Black’ spinoff

The 'Thor: Ragnarok' costars will reunite for a brand-new 'Men in Black' film

When Chris Hemsworth turns up on the set of his upcoming Men in Black spinoff, he’ll spy an old friend: “We know each other! She’s a friend from work!”

Actress Tessa Thompson, who played Valkyrie opposite Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok, has now signed on to join the Sony film, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and Hemsworth is about to close his deal to star.

Although Sony had originally planned to combine Men in Black with 21 Jump Street in a crossover film, that idea is now off the shelf and screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum are putting together a Men in Black spinoff instead. Hemsworth and Thompson won’t be playing the original Men in Black characters played by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.

Director F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton; The Fate of the Furious) is confirmed as director and Steven Spielberg is executive producer.

The Men in Black spinoff is set for release mid-2019.
