It was yesterday’s shock story: Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler have called time on their relationship after nearly a decade together. And now, a close friend of the former couple has spilled the tea on the exact reason for their split.

And it’s all down to that pesky celeb issue of “schedule clashes.
While Vanessa has been overseas filming her new movie, The Princess Switch 2, over the past few months, Austin has been in The States working on Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.
“They’re just shooting on two different continents and it’s a matter of distance,” a source tells E! News of the couple’s split. “There is no bad blood at all, and they have a lot of respect for each other.”
Though Hudgens and Butler “are split for now” they’re “going to see what happens,” a second source tells E! News.
“They have such a history and deep connection they could find their way back to one another,” the insider adds.
On Wednesday, January 15, an insider confirmed the former High School Musical star and the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood actor had split towards the end of 2019.
“Vanessa and Austin are officially broken up, and Vanessa has been telling those close to her about their breakup,” the source close to the actors spilled to Us Weekly.
The former couple— who met on the set of High School Musical while Vanessa was dating Zac Efron— recently sparked split speculation when fans noticed they didn’t spend the holidays together.
As we know, The Knight Before Christmas actress was flaunting her incredible winter getaway in Vals, Switzerland, however, Austin didn’t appear in any of the photos she shared to Instagram.
Then, on December 13, the stunning singer spent her 31st birthday with her younger sister, Stella Hudgens, who surprised her while she was filming for Netflix’s, The Princess Switch: Switched Again.
Once again, Austin was missing from the festivities.
Vanessa— who confirmed she was dating Austin in September 2011— opened up about her deeply private relationship with Austin in November 2019, telling Women’s Health that they’re not quite ready to take the next step in their relationship.
“I want to get married, travel, then have kids— probably in my late 30s. Everyone’s clock is different,” she said.
