The Coles Stikeez craze has hit absurd new heights, after the much coveted Golden Billy Bananas Stikeez sold on eBay for an obscene $20,100.
As first reported by New Idea Food, the item earned frenzied attention from 65 bidders, with bidding on the Stikeez starting at a modest $10.
The Golden Billy is just one of 100 produced, and has become an obsession for fans of the cheaply-produced plastic collectables.
Other golden bananas that have appeared on auction sites have attracted somewhat more reasonable winning bids of $2500, $4500 and $7499.

The crazy outcome has created a stir online, with most commenters shocked that anyone would shell out so much for something so silly.
One poster on Facebook’s shopping site, I Bought It At wrote: ‘More money than sense.’ Added another: ‘Absolutely first world idiocy.’
It’s hard to argue with that.

The Stikeez craze erupted after the supermarket giant offered one of the collectables for every $30 spent – there are 24 fruit or veggie characters in the set. The golden banana comes with a $100 voucher, but the item itself is clearly the real prize.
