Thirty-year-old singer-songwriter Dami Im has just released new EP Live Sessions and is touring much of 2019, both with Human Nature and on her own.

How did you choose the songs to include on Live Sessions?

Touring has been really important in shaping my career the past couple of years and I felt the need to document and share those moments. The songs on the EP summarise how I have evolved as an artist.

When you play live, do you like to stay faithful to the recorded version or mix things up?

Most of these tracks were recorded during my I Hear A Song tour with my acoustic band, so some of the more electronic songs like “Super Love” had to be reinterpreted to fit this format while others like “I Hear a Song” stayed pretty close to the original.

Was it nice to include a new original song on the EP?

Yes, “Dreamer” (above) is the most personal song I’ve ever written, so when I performed it live it was frightening, but so cathartic. I felt so bare and accepted in that room, and I’m really glad the moment was captured live.

Do you have plans for another album of originals?

I’ve been working on a new original album so hopefully new music is coming soon.

You have a busy year of touring ahead. Are you a light packer?

Depends on my mood. Sometimes I pack even more things than what I use at home, like three different types of bath salts and all sorts of hair products I won’t need. Other times I feel super lazy and just pack a carry on and hope I can survive with whatever is in that tiny bag.

Will you be keeping an eye on the competition to represent Australia at Eurovision?

It’s quite exciting they’re getting the public involved right from the beginning. I’m curious to see who ends up going this year.
