While glam rock icon David Bowie has been gone for six months after losing a cancer battle on January 10, a little bit of him remains for fans to remember him by—a lock of the singer’s hair, which is for sale.
Beverly Hills auctioneers Heritage Auction will conduct the bidding on behalf of a client who snipped Bowie’s hair while creating a wax dummy of his alter ego Ziggy Stardust for Madame Tussauds in 1983.
Wendy Farrier, who held on to the memorabilia for 33 years, was a wig-maker charged with replicating the tresses of Bowie, who was born David Jones.
The lock of hair is expected to fetch close to $A5,000. Hair strands are often the subject of forensic investigations as they contain human DNA.
Also keeping the star in the spotlight is Bowie’s widow Iman, who paid tribute to her late husband with a sentimental post of David cradling their daughter, Alexandria, with a sweet, simple message: “Happy Father’s Day”.
