Taking Health Minister Greg Hunt’s advice that Australians should ‘over-test’ rather than ‘under-test’ for COVID-19, she decided to get her young daughter checked by a doctor.

However, the TV star quickly discovered getting tested isn’t that easy.

‘I was told, rather than coming in [to see the doctor], they’d have to do a $30 phone assessment,’ Deb explained.

It was established during the phone consultation that it was unlikely that Audrey had coronavirus, with the doctor explaining Deb did not need to take her to get further testing.

However, the former Today show presenter said the advice was confusing given that Hunt had told people to be extra cautious.

‘If we did decide that we wanted to get her tested, that is where things would get complicated.’

The earliest appointment at the local testing centre was in five days’ time, she said.

Deborah explained that Audrey would have had to be isolated in her room for five days before and after the coronavirus test.

‘That’s part of the problem, the advice we’re getting is difficult to follow… [it’s] a lot to go through.’
