Prince Charles undertook the honour on behalf of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. While the “Shape Of You” singer was not made a “Sir” (or knight), so the official ceremony did not include the traditional sword tap on the shoulder.

Following the event, the 26-year-old told reporters that his grandfather was a fan of the monarchy and believed he would be proud of his grandson for receiving the astounding honour.

“Do you know what I love, my grandfather was a massive royalist, he had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud,” he told reporters, according to PEOPLE.
