Elton John has taken to Instagram to announce the passing of his 92-year-old mother Sheila Eileen (née Harris).
Alongside a snap of himself and his mother smiling happily, the 70-year-old broke the tragic news to his 768K followers.
“So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning,” The Tiny Dancer singer shared.
He then recalled: “I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock.” Before emotionally writing:”Travel safe Mum. Thank-you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton.”
The iconic pop legend has always had a close relationship with his late mum as he was raised primarily by his mother and maternal grandmother.
The two did go through a rough patch, only recently reuniting after an 8-year feud.
Following their troubled times, John told Daily Mirror, “Out of respect for my mother’s privacy, I have always shied away from speaking publicly about our relationship. However, I can say that we are now back in touch and have been so since my mother’s 90th birthday.”
