Tense scenes at Melbourne’s Flagstaff train station this morning, with police responding to reports of a passenger with a gun.

The busy CBD station has been evacuated, with an affected train stopped at the station – which has been attended by a large number of police.
Metro Trains spokesman James Ireland confirmed to AAP: ‘There were reports of someone with a firearm.
‘The police were called and the train was stopped at Flagstaff.
‘All the other trains will run direct to Flinders Street.
UPDATE: Police have now confirmed in a further statement that the station has been cleared as of 9AM, although investigations will continue.
‘Police responded to reports a man was allegedly carrying a firearm bag on a train at Flagstaff this morning,’ read a statement.
‘The area was searched and has now been cleared by police.
‘Police will remain in the area today to speak with any members of the public who may have concerns.”
