Grant Denyer has slammed Tom Gleeson for mocking the Logies, warning that if the comedian wins the coveted Gold Logie this year it could ruin the high-profile awards for good.
LISTEN to Grant’s shock attack on Tom live on air:
Denyer, who won the Gold Logie in 2018 vented on his 2Day FM breakfast show this morning, expressing that he thought Gleeson’s tongue-in-cheek Logies campaign was making a mockery of the awards.
“It’s become a joke this year,” he said to his co-hosts, Ed Kavalee and Ash London.
“Two of the loudest Gold nominees are just effectively taking the piss.”
He may have a point.
Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has been touring the country in a garish campaign bus, while Tom has released a series of cheeky attacks about his fellow nominees.
Speaking of Gleeson, Denyer continued: “He’s slagging everyone off.”
“He’s having a crack at Amanda Keller. She’s divine, she deserves to win. She’s been in it for 35 years. She’s not doing it because it’s a joke, she’s not ripping the heart out of the Logies. It would mean the world to her to win.
“She is a game-changer and a ground breaker, she’s wonderfully warm, incredibly whip smart and deserves it, however Tom Gleeson is just taking all the headlines,” Denyer said. “I’m worried if he wins, that’s it for the Logies forever.”
Denyer also accused Gleeson of expecting the Dancing With The Stars host to support his campaign trail because he did the same for Denyer last year.
“He (Gleeson) jumped on at the eleventh hour and basically took over my campaign,” Denyer recalled on air. “I didn’t ask him to, I didn’t really want him to, but I had no choice in that. Everybody in the country now thinks I won the award because of him, and if I’m honest, that s—s me.
“He’s done interview after interview after interview claiming the victory last year,”
“Forget the 20 years of work I put in to get to that particular point… I didn’t even ask for him to jump on board my campaign.”
This year’s Gold Logie nominees are Tom Gleeson, Sam Mac, Eve Morey, Amanda Keller, Rodger Corser and Costa Georgiadis.
