US Gymnast Samantha Cerio was just starting her floor routine when she misjudged her landing during a move known as a handspring double front.
Her landing was catastrophic, with the competition commentator announcing, ‘I think she may be hurt’.
He was right: she dislocated both knees and broke both her legs.
University student Samantha was left in agony by the horror landing at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Baton Rouge Regional event. Staff rushed to place her legs in casts before she was taken away for treatment.
Fans gave her an ovation as she was stretchered from the scene.
Her coach, Jeff Grab says the gymnast has been a ‘trouper’ and the ‘heart and soul’ of the team.
