After a huge seven days, the teams transformed married couple Mel and Dave’s home on the Gold Coast. The blood, sweat and tears of the House Rules teams can be seen in these ‘after’ photos of the home. It’s pretty clear that pretty much all of the teams captured the ‘Hampton’s style’ that the couple were after!
Josh and Brandon
The chippie brothers tackled the hallway, ensuite and sitting room. Here are the beautiful after shots.
LLB wasn’t too impressed with the sitting room. “It’s like a downward spiral. It’s like a vortex into total, and utter, dull hideousness. It looks as if it’s the corner of a little old peoples’ home where little old people come to die.” Whilst Drew loved Josh and Brandon’s hallway, saying it was a “great space. We have some terrible entries, and this certainly isn’t one of them.”
Wendy thought Josh and Brandon’s ensuite was a “bi-polar room,” as half the room was great and the other half was not. Toad and Mandy
NSW dairy farmers Toad and Mandy kicked goals with their kitchen, but the judges weren’t as sold on their reno of Westin’s bedroom and the bonus room.
The judges loved the kitchen! “Well done Toad and Mandy,” said LLB. LLB hated the pirate-themed bedroom for Mel and Dave’s son Westin. “I thought they [handmade pieces] were ‘foot-made’ they’re so bad,” he said. The Bonus Room failed to impress the judges. LLB thought it looked like “a nest of dried, arid twigs” that needed some more “slick” textures. The brickwork Toad and Mandy left exposed really “irked” Drew. He said “it needed to be rendered or sheeted in something,” to give it the ‘Cape Cod’ feel. Jess and Jared
Adelaide-based couple Jess and Jared scored positive feedback from the judges for their lounge room and powder room.
The judges were very impressed and loved the wallpaper pattern in the lounge room. Wendy said it was “perfect,” and that the marble “fireplace is great.” LLB said: “It feels like a summer holiday. It’s quite surfy, but posh at the same time.” All the judges loved it and the tiled wallpaper was a hit.
Leigh and Kristie
Competitive couple Leigh and Kristie were given the main bathroom and Billy’s bedroom for this week’s reno, but not all the comments were positive.
The combined bath and shower in the main bathroom was hit and miss for the judges. “Someone’s left a bath in the shower…besides that I’m really loving what they’ve done in here. I think it’s really subtle,” said Drew.
LLB said that Billy’s dinosaur themed bedroom was merely “a trolley dash” to “buy anything that’s got a dinosaur on it and throw it into a space.” Wendy agreed and said: “[They] need to spend some more time planning [their] spaces.” Kim and Michelle
Mother and daughter team Kim and Michelle tackled the mudroom and master bedroom in Mel and Dave’s home and received some pretty positive comments.
LLB was amazed with Kim and Michelle’s mudroom saying, “The only mud that’s allowed in here is the mud from Buckingham Palace.” Wendy said: “This is the stuff of mudroom dreams… they’ve made it all the things that make the Hamptons so desirable.” LLB wasn’t completely sold on the master bedroom and said it was “a rather capricious use of space… there is no sense of design here at all.” Overall he thought it was a “drab non-event.” Drew liked that the team had made a built-in seat within the bedroom for a “space within a space.” Chiara and David
Explosive married couple Chiara and David put their touches on the laundry, the hallway and dining nook but they didn’t receive a positive response from the judges for their zone.
LLB thought their cabinet statement piece in the dining nook was “deliberate, perverse, and irritating beyond belief.”
