Gold Coast couple Mel and Dave tackled this week’s bonus room but their finished product missed the mark and homeowners Josh and Brandon failed them for their efforts. Mel and Dave were tasked with creating a music room for the chippie brothers, but the strain of their zone – consisting of the lounge room, pantry and music room – proved too much for them. “With the rock out rule we were expecting to be able to sort of go in there and actually like jump on the drums or something or grab a guitar and have a jam and stuff,” said Josh. “Sadly it just wasn’t finished,” said Brandon.
Despite having a drum kit and guitars in the room, the equipment wasn’t ready to be used and a lot of it was pushed into the corner of the room, as the couple didn’t have enough time to assemble it. “We’re sorry, we’re going to have to fail it sorry,” said Josh. Mel and Dave were understandably gutted by the decision. “That’s the most unfortunate circumstance. The pass or fail is here or there, but when you lose five points…” said Mel.
The loss of five points pushed Mel and Dave to the bottom of the leaderboard, which means they will be staying in the tent for next week’s renovation. Meanwhile, Chiara and David were over the moon as they managed to keep their top spot, with a total of 30 points. Josh and Brandon liked their work on the bathroom and walk-in robe. “We thought the double showerheads and stuff was good,” said Josh. “The tiles were laid like GT stripes and stuff, I think that was really sick.”
An emotional David seemed relieved that all of their hard work was beginning to pay off. “No matter how much you fail, don’t give up because at the end of the day this is what you can achieve,” said David. “And this is what I want my kids to see, we don’t give up.”
