It was a case of history repeating itself for Shannon Noll when he came second in this season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. This comes 15 years after he famously came runner-up in Australian Idol in 2003. But, the singer tells WHO that he’s more than happy to cop a bit of “stick” if it brought awareness to his chosen charity, the Black Dog Institute.

WHO: So, you’re runner-up once again. Australia has been ribbing you a fair bit on social media (including Guy Sebastian who tweeted last night that his finger was sore from voting for Fiona). How does it feel coming second again all those years after Australian Idol?

SHANNON NOLL: I’ll tell you what, it’s better than coming third mate, that’s for sure! Nah I’m just joking. It’s pretty funny really, for the irony of it. I’ve had a big laugh about it myself actually, I’m going like surly not again! But at the end of the day this whole thing is a charity based driven thing, so I think a lot of good came for my charity, with awareness and the money that John Edward donated. At the end of the day I can take a bit of stick, that’s the Australian way isn’t it? So to come second again, I’m pretty happy with that.

WHO: How has your experience in the jungle changed or affected you?

SHANNON NOLL: That’s absolutely amazing, to be honest. It was pretty crazy, really. I didn’t think it was going to be as hard as it was going to be – the downtime and the hunger factor were pretty massive and the whole disconnect from society. I mean, not that I wanted to be on my phone on Facebook or anything like that, but it was knowing that my family and kids back home were OK, that was a hard one for me.

WHO: What’s next for you now that this adventure is over?

SHANNON NOLL: I’ve got a heap of shows booked. I released my first album in seven years whilst I was in the camp so that was a bit different. The 2nd of February it came out so I was sort in there not knowing anything about how that was going either which was a bit of a head much around, if you know what I mean.  I put that out and I’ve got a heap of shows coming up through May, so I’m doing an extensive Australian tour off the back that because obviously it’s the first one I’ve had out in six or seven years. I’m really looking forward to that, but I’m looking forward to getting home in all honesty and being back in Australia. So that’s the priority at the moment.

WHO: I read that Tiffany is keen to do a duet with you. Is that something you’d be interested in?

SHANNON NOLL: Definitely, Tiff’s a really good writer, like sitting back there when we did a bit of writing together, it was pretty obvious that she’s been writing for a long time and knows how the craft works. So it was a lot of fun writing with her and coming to know that because we all remember Tiff as a 15-year-old kid, sort of thing, doing a pop song and that’s sort of all we really know about her. But to find out that she’s such a accomplished songwriter… it was pretty great. So definitely when she comes back to Australia we’re going to catch up and maybe put a song down. It all comes down… if we come up with a good one but I’m definitely going to go to a show, take the kids along, that would be great!

WHO: You opened up to Fiona on the show about your family’s previous financial struggle, with a lot of your money being spent to save the family farm. Is this something you and your family has to worry about these days?

SHANNON NOLL: Definitely, I mean, we still don’t own a house as of yet and buying a house in Sydney… you’ve got to own a small fortune. So we’re not sure yet but hopefully in the near future we can squirrel a bit away and try to get something we can own instead of just paying somebody else’s mortgage, as they say. But that’s the problem for a lot of Australians these days, not being able to own their own home so I’m going to hit the ground running here and not too much time off and just get straight into work I think and hopefully work towards something anyway.

WHO: Obviously food was pretty scarce in the jungle. How much weight did you end up losing?

SHANNON NOLL: I lost 11.5kg. As soon as I decided to go into the jungle, I just ate everything I could find. I ended up only putting on about 4kg [before heading into the jungle]. I had no bum in the first place and now I’ve definitely got no bum!
