New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has just announced radical new changes to gun ownership laws in her country, in the wake of the Christchurch mosque massacre that claimed 50 lives.
The government will introduce a gun buy-back scheme similar to the one introduced here by the Howard government in the wake of the Port Arthur massacre.
‘What we are banning today are the things that were used in last Friday’s attack’, Ardern said. ‘We must make (changes) to prevent an act of terror happening in our country ever again.

‘In short, every semi-automatic weapon used in the terrorist attack on Friday will be banned in this country.’
There will be heightened security for Friday prayers in New Zealand tomorrow, with an increased police presence at mosques and some other places of worship.
