New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has won praise all around the world with her gun reform legislation, but she’s got plenty of support closer to home too.
The PM’s partner, Clarke Gayford, has shared a very personal reaction to the news military-style semi-automatic guns and assault rifles are now illegal in the land of the long white cloud.
Posting this tender image on Twitter, showing the couple’s baby daughter Neve clutching his finger, Gayford wrote: ‘For her 9-month birthday today we received the gift of crawling. While her mum got her the gift of having a safer country to grow up in.’
A stay-at-home dad, Gayford has also won a lot of lot of support – with followers showering him with praise over the post.
‘That’s beautiful Clarke,’ wrote one. Wrote another: ‘Congratulations Neve on your milestone. And thank you for letting us all borrow your mum so much this last week, you are a lucky little girl to have such a strong mummy.

Prime Minister Ardern is only the second world leader to give birth while in office.
