Sam Royce, who starred in Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor, took to Instagram on Friday to explain to her fans how her shocking injury unfolded – and share some pretty gruesome images.
‘So here’s a little story on why you shouldn’t play with boiling water and hot wax,’ she began a lengthy post, which was accompanied by a gallery of pictures of herself in hospital, as well as several close-ups of the injury.

The reality star went on to explain that 12 days ago, she and her flatmate were preparing their house for the arrival of Jarrod – who is believed to have flown to Darwin ahead of the coronavirus lockdown laws to be with his girlfriend.
‘Ne [Sam’s flatmate] wanted the house to smell so good that she poured boiling water into a finished candle so the wax would lift off the bottom of the jar and we could use it in an oil burner (reduce, reuse, recycle♻️)” Sam continued.

Trying to be a good housemate, I thought I’d get her some new candles while I was at the shops so I picked up the candle to read the label on the bottom and managed to pour 500ml of boiling water and hot wax all down my chest.
The Bachelor star went on to say that she’d suffered several broken bones in the past, but the pain from the burn was ‘next level’.
‘I rushed straight to the shower and was completed out of breath with the pain,’ she continued.
‘I remember saying to Ne that I’d rather swap the burn for five broken bones it was that intense. As the water in Darwin isn’t very cold, I lay face down in the bath which we filled with water and ice packs/ frozen peas in an attempt to cool the water. When I couldn’t take the pain any more, Ne drove me to the hospital.
‘I got straight into emergency and on the morphine and was then able to reflect on the stupid mistake. I only had to spend the day in hospital and I was able to go home to recover. Jarrod drove me to all my burns clinic appointment over the next 10 days and did so well to not throw up when the doctor peeled all the skin off my chest’

Sam ended her post by explaining that she now has to put scarring cream on 5-6 times a day and asked her fans to send her tips on burn recovery and ways to minimise scars.

Despite persistent rumours, Sam and Jarrod only recently confirmed they have been dating for the past few months.
‘Ten more sleeps until I have my beautiful girlfriend Sam back in my arms!’ Jarrod captioned a sweet pic.
The couple had previously claimed they were ‘just good friends’.
Jarrod rose to fame on Sophie Monk’s season of The Bachelorette in 2017, and then appeared on Bachelor in Paradise in 2018, where he met ex-girlfriend Keira Maguire.
