Jesinta Franklin has opened up about her. terrifying health scare.
The 27-year-old model spoke to Australian Women’s Health about having colon polyps removed after discovering she carries the same cancer gene as her mother, Valerie, who recently beat bowel cancer.
“If you remove the polyp then it can’t develop into cancer,” the Australian model explained, revealing they were discovered during a routine colonoscopy.
Colon polyps are described as growths on the lining of the colon or rectum, and while in most cases it is unlikely they will develop into cancer, for some people, it is important that they are removed.
“[Getting checked is] the one thing I can proactively do every year that will stop me from getting [bowel cancer],” Jesinta continued.
“That’s why I’m really passionate about talking about it, because it is a preventable cancer if you do the right things and stay on top of it.”
Speaking earlier this year to news.com.au, Jesinta – who is married to AFL star Buddy Franklin – revealed that she is being closely monitored after discovering she carries the same cancer gene as her mother.
“She didn’t have any symptoms and just went for a routine test. It was a shock because she is so vibrant, my mum,” she told InStyle last year.
“We’re just very lucky that she’s still here.”
