Johnny Depp has filed a petition seeking to keep the legal proceedings in his ongoing divorce from Amber Heard out of the public eye.
According to court documents obtained by WHO, Depp is requesting to keep any forthcoming information discovered during the proceedings, including financial information and witness statements, as confidential. Furthermore, he is requesting that any experts or witnesses who testify in the case be required to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
The filing claims that “Amber’s need for financial information to resolve this case is distinct from the public’s appetite for celebrity divorce.”
The petition continues: “This case has been extraordinarily public since its inception. There have been daily articles in the domestic and foreign press about this proceeding and the parties’ lives.
“Every detail of this action has been chronicled by the media and it has become one of the most heavily publicized celebrity divorces in recent memory.”
The documents claim that Depp’s legal team had previously asked Heard to agree to maintain confidentiality, but says she “has inexplicably refused to sign any agreement” to do so.
The filing also alleges that “Heard and/or her counsel have participated in at least one media story which contained specific provisions from prior settlement communications.”
Finally, the petition asserts that Heard is asking for financial information irrelevant to the case, and is therefore requesting that the court quash those allegedly inconsequential requests. The filing argues that some of the information requested long predates his relationship with Heard, while other “contracts and agreements with movie studios and fashion designers” are already confidential.
The filing also calls Heard’s alleged requests to subpoena financial information from his Hollywood Vampire bandmates “irrelevant.”
