Two years after diagnosis, Johnny Ruffo shares the latest update in his cancer battle

Spoiler alert: fantastic news!

Former Home And Away star Johnny Ruffo has taken to Instagram to share the latest update in his cancer battle – and it’s the best news we could have hoped for.

“Exactly two years ago versus today,” he captioned side-by-side images of his brain scans taken at the beginning and end of his battle with brain cancer.

“So glad to have beaten this horrible disease. Thank you for all the support!”

The beloved Aussie star has been candidly sharing his progress in fighting the disease, revealing in January this year: “I’m going really good. My next scan is in three weeks and provided that’s all clear then I’m in the clear completely.”

“That will be my last scan for now and then I’ve got to get another one every three months – you’ve got to keep checking up on it.”

He updated fans again in May, telling radio hosts Fitzy and Wippa, “I’ve gotten the all clear, so no more cancer. I’ve just got to hope it stays that way.”

Johnny discovered he had a tumour in his brain when his girlfriend Tahnee Sims took him to hospital after suffering from a headache that just wouldn’t go away.

“I was just at home and I had a headache, but everyone has headaches and you never think much of it,” he told Who Are You podcast host Pete Timbs.

“It had been ongoing and it just got worse and worse. It got to about 4 or 5 in the afternoon and I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t communicate with [Tahnee] at all.”

By the next morning, Johnny had fallen into a coma; he had a brain tumour and would have to undergo emergency surgery to remove it.

“Some things in life really put things into perspective, hoping for a positive result, keep me in your thoughts x,” he wrote on Instagram following the operation.

Now, two years on from the initial diagnosis, the loveable larrikin is living life to the fullest, and working on exciting new projects – including the recent release of a new single.

“This song is probably the most vulnerable song I’ve written. It’s very personal for me,” he revealed on The Morning Show in early July, following the release of his latest single, Broken Glass.

“It’s loosely about my experiences in the past two or three years – and about being down and out – not necessarily about cancer, but about anything like depression or losing a loved one.

“I really want people to connect with it and interpret it in their own way – because everyone goes through struggles.”
