Jules Robinson knows her road to fame has been a unique experience. Living her life in the public eye has led to judgement about her body and physical attributes before people truly knew any part of her.

“It’s mindblowing” she explains to WHO, but “this process has undoubtedly made me a kinder person.”

Whilst the MAFS star admits being in the public eye was a “lot to deal with” at the beginning, she’s proud to know she’s come a long way.

“Over the years I’ve learnt to shake it off and know that really it’s not about me,” she explains.

Whilst having your body under constant public scrutiny would be a lot to deal with for anyone, Jules explains that she has worked hard to turn “pain into purpose,” using her unique experience in the public spotlight as the inspiration behind the branding of FIGUR, her shapewear company.

And she understands why people may see the irony of a body-positive shapewear line, but her brand is not about making women smaller, it’s about celebrating women’s bodies and flaunting womanly curves.

“For many women, big or small, wearing shapewear is what unlocks confidence and makes them feel great,” she explains, “I believe real body confidence is about knowing our body, working with what we have got and loving ourselves unconditionally.”

Since welcoming her son, Oliver in October 2020, Jules has been open about her postpartum weight loss – and admits there is a stigma about sharing weight loss progress online, but she’s adamant that there is room to celebrate body positivity and healthy weight loss simultaneously.

“There is definitely a stigma to saying I want to lose weight but I honestly believe that it’s ok to make that choice,” she tells WHO.

“It’s ok to make some health goals as long as it’s not the centre of your being, your size doesn’t define your purpose, potential or happiness.”

Explaining that she personally chose to lose the 20 kilos she gained postpartum, “nothing more,” Jules admits she received backlash online. However, she believes her integrity and honest approach to sharing her experiences saw her receive support from the majority of her followers.

“I really want to carry another baby and my choice is to be comfortable doing that,” she explains.

Now a mother of one, Jules has been open about how her understanding of body confidence and body image has changed since becoming a mum.

“I loved seeing my body change whilst pregnant,” she shared, “I would sit naked in front of the mirror and just stare and explore my forever changing new body. I truly embraced every part. I even did my “sexiest” photo shoot I have ever done whilst pregnant.”

“We glorify the pregnant body so much so I thought I would glorify my postpartum body too,” she continued. “So I recreated that shoot when 6 months postpartum. Another “new body.”

“To me, this second shoot was about celebrating what my body just did for me, yes it looked very different but for me, that body confidence to feel comfortable, to recreate, came from the experience of motherhood.”

Joining Are Media in October as a speaker for BodFest, a celebration of body positivity and body confidence, Jules understands the importance of self-love.

“Self-love to me has so many layers to it” she shares, “it’s not dependent on physical looks, it’s so much more than that.”

“Integrity” is the way to self-love she continues. “You just have to be yourself and be who you want to be, do what you want to do. Just hold your integrity and it will be your shield.”
