Just hours before Miley Cyrus announced she will no longer be headlining this Friday’s World Tour Bushfire Relief charity concert in Melbourne due to Coronavirus scares, Karl Stefanovic launched into a bizarre rant about the American singer.

The Today show host mocked Miley live on air, leaving his colleagues speechless after he joked the 27-year-old sounded like she’d been smoking too many ‘darts’ an Aussie slang term for cigarettes.

Karl’s comments came just after Miley had just finished chatting to Today’s entertainment reporter Brooke Boney about her upcoming appearance at the bushfire charity concert – which she had yet to announce she was cancelling.

After wrapping up the interview, Brooke told Karl that Miley had been responsible for her boyfriend, Cody Simpson, being late for his appearance on the Today show the previous week.

‘It could have been the fact she was having 100 darts!’ Karl replied while pretending to puff on an invisible cigarette.
Impersonating Miley, he added in a raspy voice: ‘I’ll see you guys in Australia!’
To which Brooke nervously replied: ‘No comment! No comment! Nothing to do with me!’

Karl took the joke one step further by saying: ‘She sounds like one of The Simpson ladies. What are their names? Thelma?’ in reference to marge’s chain-smoking older sisters on the US adult cartoon.

Karl’s comments come just days after he laid into Miley’s boyfriend, Cody Simpson.

Shortly after her interview on the Nine morning show, Miley released a statement saying she would no longer be coming to Australia for the bushfire concert due to Coronavirus scares.

“Due to the recommendations of local, state, federal and international government authorities, including the Center for Disease Control, to reduce potential health risks in response to the current global health crisis, we are no longer travelling to Australia for the show,” Cyrus wrote on Twitter.

“I am so disappointed to not be there, but I have to do what is right to protect the health and safety of my band and crew.
“I will still be making a donation to help the victims of the Australian bush fire.

“I’m sorry to miss everyone in Australia, but I will be back soon.”

The World Tour Melbourne promoter told news.com.au in a statement that the concert will no longer go ahead.

“We are very sad that Miley Cyrus has announced that she will not be travelling to Melbourne and that as a result the World Tour Bushfire Relief concert at Lakeside Stadium on Friday 13th March can no longer go ahead.

“All fans will receive a full refund and will be contacted by Ticketek shortly.

“World Tour’s Saturday night show with Robbie Williams will still be going ahead, and we look forward to bringing Melbourne a fantastic night of entertainment. Robbie is already on his way to Australia.”

Proceeds from Friday night’s ticket sales were going to go to two Australian based non-profits, the WWF Australian Wildlife and Nature Recovery Find and The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
