Host of the Today show Karl Stefanovic has poked fun at Sunrise newsreader Natalie Barr as the show sees its lowest level of ratings in more than a decade.
On August 24, Karl enlisted the help of a crowd of school children to promote the breakfast show. In a video posted to his Instagram account, he poses in front of the group as they chant the Today show catchphrase, “I wake up with Today!”.
The video then pans to the right to reveal Natalie Barr hovering nearby as she too was filming in the same location in Canberra.
Karl proceeded to caption the post with a simple “Suck it up haha @natalie_barr7″
Sunrise’s executive producer Michael Pell decided to weigh in and took to the comments section to post, “Very funny. Although unfortunately for you @karlstefanovic_ untrue”.
He later clarified that the comment was meant as a joke to the fact that he and Karl are “mates”.
The Today show numbers have recently plummeted to the lowest they’ve been since 2006.
On Tuesday, the breakfast program drew 199,000 viewers across five metro markets while rival Seven’s Sunrise drew 268,000 viewers.
Sunrise is now leading by 69,000 viewers as viewers continue to abandon Karl and his co-star Georgie Gardener in favour of Samantha Armytage and David ‘Kochie’ Koch.
