There was good news however, in the form of Kelly Rowland – who announced that she would be performing at free concert at Royal Randwick for racegoers on October 19.

However, with rumours swirling that Kelly could also be set to replace Tay-Tay at Melbourne Cup, there are calls for The Voice judge to step down, after a two-year ABC investigation has revealed allegations hundreds of Australian racehorses are being sent to the slaughterhouse.

“Apparently @KELLYROWLAND will now being playing at the Melbourne cup after @taylorswift13 pulled out so we are asking Kelly to #pullaswifty and say #nuptothecup because HORSE RACING KILLS” wrote one angered fan on Twitter.

Animal welfare and behaviour scientist Professor Paul McGreevy told the ABC there was no way the racing industry could defend the behaviour.
“This is a clear breach of everything the industry has told us,” he said.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton told Today state governments need to step up and do something.
“It is upsetting,” he said, “and if there is a law … it needs to be enforced if it is not. But it is a very difficult situation.”

While Kelly has yet to comment on the matter, Taylor faced huge backlash from animal activists when it was discovered she wold be performing at the controversial event.

The Coalition For The Protection of Racehorses even began a campaign to ask Swift to say #NupToTheCup on social media.
