Like many mums, Khloé Kardashian has admitted the newborn stage didn’t get much easier for her the second time around. “You just forget how mind-boggling the beginning is, because no-one would do it again and again if they remembered how torturous [it] is,” the 38-year-old has confessed.
But for the reality star, there’s been an extra hurdle she’s had to navigate after welcoming son Tatum via surrogate in July last year, with Kardashian opening up about her struggle to connect with the little one.

In a recent episode of the family’s reality show, The Kardashians, she confessed that she felt less bonded to her son than her daughter True, whom she birthed.
“When you compare it to True and him, it is a very different experience,” she told her mum, Kris Jenner, on camera. “With True, it took me a couple of days to be like, ‘OK, this is my daughter’ … With him, it has taken me months.
“I love him … but I definitely don’t have that complete bond,” she continued.
Kardashian’s journey in growing her family has certainly been a rocky one. Just days before the reality star and her then-beau Tristan Thompson welcomed True in 2018, it was revealed that the NBA player had cheated on Kardashian.
The former couple continued an on-off relationship, before Thompson, 32, confirmed in January 2022 he had fathered a son with fitness instructor Maralee Nichols after she had issued a paternity lawsuit against him. The scandal came to light just a month after Kardashian and Thompson’s son was reportedly conceived.
And the unlucky-in-love star has admitted that her personal issues with Thompson contributed to the “mindf–k” that was her surrogacy journey, adding that she had been in a “state of shock from the entire experience”.
“I definitely buried my head in the sand during that pregnancy that I didn’t digest what was happening,” she shared. “So, I think when I went to the hospital, that was the first time it really registered.
“I felt really guilty that this woman just had my baby, and then I take the baby and go to another room and you’re separated. It’s such a transactional experience,” Kardashian continued. “I wish someone was honest about surrogacy and the difference of it. That doesn’t mean it’s bad – it’s great, but it’s very different.”
Jenner assured her daughter she’s “mother of the year” and she needed time to process the “trauma” before questioning herself as a parent.
“I wish I wasn’t so critical of myself because I’m very kind to everyone else, I’m just not very kind to myself,” Kardashian confessed later in the episode. “But being a mum is truly one of the most magical experiences ever.”
