During a video interview for Kourtney’s lifestyle site Poosh, the sisters discussed what it was like to raise their children when they were babies, with Khloe admitting she had difficulty giving True enough milk even though Kourt was giving her helpful tips after having an “easy” experience with her three children Mason, Penelope and Reign.
“You were always trying to help me and give me tips, and I was like, ‘It’s just not working!’ the Good American designer recalled. “I wanted to, like, strangle you. Your experience seemed so easy and it wasn’t for me.”
“I used to get almost frustrated with you,” the 35-year-old continued. “Not that you even did anything, but you would just talk about this experience you had, and how beautiful [it was]. You would say things not at all trying to criticise me, but I would take it like, ‘it’s not that easy’.”
Khloe then went on to say that they stress she was experiencing at the time of True’s birth – the reality star had just discovered partner Tristan Thompson has been cheating and she was living away from the rest of her family in Ohio in order to be with Tristan – definitely played a part in not being able to produce enough breast milk.
“There was a lot going on in my life at the time. That, I think, played a part in why I wasn’t producing [milk] as easily. Stress does play a part of it, but also being alone in Cleveland, by myself, and not having my family there,” she explained.
“It sucked. I hated every minute of it. It was torture. I always felt like I was never giving True enough food. I felt like she was always hungry.”
Once she decided to move to formula, Khloe said she felt a huge weight off her shoulder and began enjoying being a mum.
Khloe also noted that her younger sister Kylie Jenner, who gave birth just a few months before her, didn’t seem to struggle with the same issues.
“I know Kylie wasn’t going to breastfeed, that was her choice from the start,” Khloe said of Kylie, who welcomed her daughter, Stormi Webster, in February 2018.
Khloe added that when she finally went public with her decision not to breastfeed, she received lots of positive feedback.
“People were like applauding me, thank God for just being honest. I hated every minute of it. It was torture,” she said of nursing.
“Once I stopped, though, the amount of pressure that was lifted off my shoulders and I could enjoy my daughter… I’m all for breastfeeding. I tried. But if you can’t do it, you don’t have to feel like a failure. You don’t have to feel like I’m bad at this mom thing. I’m great at this mom thing. Breastfeeding I wasn’t great at.”
