Lisa Curry had a rough start to 2020! The former Olympic swimmer was rushed to hospital on New Year’s Day after waking up with a severely swollen throat.

The 57-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday to detail the health scare, sharing a photo of herself lying on a bed in hospital surrounded by medical equipment.
“My goal for the year was to slow the heck down… before I even got a chance to slow down, I ended up here in a Melbourne hospital,” Lisa explained in the caption.
“New Year’s Day lovely lunch with friends, go home for a nana nap, woke up unable to breathe… my throat and tongue swollen and so scary not to be able to get a proper breath,” she added.
Lisa went on to explain that the ordeal has reminded her to look after he health and take life at a slower pace.
“We only tend to slow down when we are FORCED to. When we feel ok, we keep pushing and pushing,” she wrote.
While Lisa admitted she is still none the wiser as to what caused her tongue to swell, she explained that she is “quite allergic” to things in the air and plants.
“But really have no idea why it happened?? Immune system down plus too much stress,” she told her followers.
In 2008, the Aussie sports star underwent heart surgery for a condition known as myocarditis which, if left unchecked, can result in cardiac arrest.
Seven years later, the sporting legend underwent heart surgery again to fix her cardioverter-defibrillator.
The three-time Olympic swimming champ is mother to Morgan, Jaimi and Jett with ex-husband Grant Kenny.
