Love Island stars Amelia and Josh may not have taken home the $50,000 winning prize, but the couple caught up with WHO and while they STILL haven’t said I love you yet, they’re not too far off it!
WHO: How are you guys feeling?
Amelia: Amazing!
WHO: Are you two still together?
Josh: Absolutely! We really enjoyed each other company in the Villa and since we’ve been out everything has been good – I’m really happy with where Amelia and I are at.
Amelia: As soon as we took the microphones off it was such a relief, I just felt like I was free.
WHO: Amelia you came in like a lucky prize at the end… Josh, what made Amelia so special, what made her stand out amongst the rest of the female contestants?
Josh: Obviously before Amelia came in I was literally thinking of giving up. It was getting to that stage where I was thinking: ‘Am I ever going to find that right girl?’
After that, I got the vote to have a date by the Australian public and then as soon as Amelia walked down the beach she caught my eye straight away. You know she was wearing a beautiful bikini and her hair was done really nice – she had amazing eyes and I really liked what I saw. And basically we got talking, I felt a spark and it felt so natural talking to her. It was an instant connection – I hadn’t had that for a very long time. I’m just blessed to have Amelia right now.
WHO: You mentioned you were a bit afraid of Amelia’s commitment to you, is that still an issue for you?
Josh: I think Amelia was bringing in some of the issues from previous relationships she’s had – we all have some scars. I think because of the intensity of the Villa and how the show runs, you can sometimes get caught up in an emotional state and you’re not sure if the connection was manufactured. Going back to the start she was a bit cautious about how to approach it and basically as time went on we began to trust each other more and the walls came down. Yes we had a few conversations where Amelia was saying: “On the outside, are you still going to like me? It’s not about you Josh, I really like you, I’ve got this massive connection with you and it’s never going to be that I’m not into you but I’m worried that you’re not reciprocating feelings. I had to reassure her that the feelings are there and they’re genuine and I want to build a relationship on the outside – I can’t wait to introduce you to my family and my friends. And now that we’ve been out of the Villa, the feelings are there and they’re genuine, we’re still the exact same with each other and now I think Amelia can see that this is definitely something that’s going to work on the outside.
Amelia: You’re so cute!
WHO: Amelia, we can understand why you had your guard up but what was the hardest part about committing to Josh?
Amelia: I think I had problems back home with certain relationships and I think it made me really question myself and my self-worth. But at the same time I think being in the villa and when people say things to you –they may have mentioned the game – so you start questioning everything. It’s such an intense environment and there are lots of different perceptions because everyone is so different. I am an over thinker and was paranoid already. A lot of the issues I had were coming from me, so it was never really Josh’s fault at all.
WHO: Was it a shock when you didn’t win?
Amelia: It was a bit of both because a lot of people in the Villa were saying that we were going to win. It’s just something that you don’t prepare for. You can’t! To me it wasn’t a shock anymore because the other two couples they were in legitimate relationships and they’d been there since the beginning. So I felt like they did have an upper hand because we’ve been able to see their relationships change, I think the ups and downs that they had were quite intense which makes the hype even better I guess. Josh and I only had two weeks and that’s still a short amount of time.
WHO: You guys dated for two weeks, obviously, the bond accelerated by living together but where are you guys at now?
Josh: For Amelia and I, a day in the Villa was like a week in the real life. Amelia and I always said were we don’t want to feel pressured – like we have to do anything for the Love Island game. We want to take it at our own speed. Basically, we are together at the moment, we haven’t made it official boyfriend and girlfriend but we’re heading off in that direction and I can definitely see that the next 2-3 weeks or the next month I can make Amelia my girlfriend. I want to build a relationship and see what can happen in the future because every time I’m with her I just have butterflies in my stomach and it just feels natural. I don’t want to rush I want to make it a special moment.
WHO: Just like your first proper kiss?
Amelia: [Laughs] I’m so excited to see it but I’m also horrified because you don’t really see yourself kissing in motion… I’m actually really scared.
WHO: Really, it was quite cute. What were you guys thinking?
Amelia: There was so much suspense because I remember when he first asked me for a kiss, I was like ‘Please don’t do it when everyone is around… I want it to be natural.’ So, all day I was thinking about it because I knew I had to initiate it.
Josh: It was really funny because everyone in the villa was running in-house teaching classes about how I was going t get a kiss. I had Teddy – who hadn’t had a single kiss, telling me what to do and I had Erin and Millie giving me advice. But I think it made the real kiss even better because there was a lot of suspense and then out of the blue I didn’t expect it… Amelia just came up and kissed me and it was such an amazing moment. Not only that, we had a standing ovation at the end as well!
WHO: If you did win, what would you have done with the money?
Amelia: I want to buy my mum a car.
Josh: I want to throw a massive party.
WHO: You could do both with $50,000.
Josh: We could meet in the middle!
WHO: Will you consider moving in together in the near future?
Amelia: I haven’t even thought of that! I feel like for now I’ll probably keep living with my friend and you [Josh] can keep living with your friend. We already have lived together… I think we need to miss each other a bit.
Josh: That’s exactly right, we didn’t have a chance to think: ‘Oh I really miss that person’. I think when we get out it will give us that chance to have a little bit of space in order to progress and then– when we make it official who knows what the future holds.
WHO: So you guys, haven’t said: “I love you” yet?
Amelia and Josh: No.
WHO: Do you want to do it now?
[Both Laugh] Josh: We know what happens when I try and rush things! We’ll wait for the special moment.
WHO: Will you meet each other’s family?
Josh: Absolutely, I briefly met Amelia’s mother on the Skype call and that was really nice, I got along with her- I’m keen to meet her in person.
Amelia: I feel like my mum already loves him! I actually think she loves you more than any guy she’s ever met. Josh’s parents were lovely, and his sister was nice as well! I love them already, I wasn’t surprised because Josh is too amazing not to have amazing parents.
WHO: We saw you guys get hot and heavy, did you have sex?
Amelia: No sex at all in the villa.
WHO: Do you have any big plans to share?
Josh: Our biggest plans are just to do normal things, like have breakfast and dinner or go watch a movie together.
WHO: Lastly, Josh you’re the middleman. What really happened between Eden and Grant?
Josh: Look, Eden is obviously one of my best friends in the Villa, I think he’s a really genuine bloke and I never witnessed anything that had any malice attached. I think at this stage it’s probably between Grant and Eden I just don’t want to say something that might now be a hundred per cent in context. It needs to stay between Grant and Eden. I think things may have been blown out of proportion, but as I said I can’t really comment about their situation.
