Luke and Cody Cook were crowned the winners of Seven’s House Rules 2016 on July 3.
The 24-year-old Queensland twins from trumped Victorian couple Claire Lintzeris and Hagan Rice in a nail-biting finale to walk away from the competition with their mortgage paid off, as well as an entirely renovated house.
“It’s definitely life-changing,” said Luke, who broke down in tears. “I may not have a family now but it’s definitely something I’m looking forward to experience and to be debt-free, I’m set up for life. I’ll be able to enjoy the little things in life when I have kids down the track and not have to worry about a financial burden.”
The brothers received a final judges’ score of 17 — two less than Lintzeris and Rice, but when combined with the total viewers’ votes they finished first.
Cody, who lives with his brother in their now completely overhauled home in Dalby, a two-hour drive west of Brisbane, said the whole experience had been incredible: “It’s been a rollercoaster but we’ve had a lot of fun.”
