Married At First Sight’s outspoken bridesmaid, Ashlee Karlar has opened up about what really happened during the show’s first lesbian wedding.
WATCH: EXCLUSIVE: MAFS’ lesbian bride Tash Herz caught smooching new girlfriend
Ashlee, an Adelaide-based poet and friend of MAFS contestant Tash Herz, caused controversy during Tuesday night’s episode after labelling Tash’s love match, Amanda as ‘fake’.
In a recent Instagram post, Ashlee admits she had spent eight hours drinking before the awkward confrontation.
Ashlee wrote: ‘You looked so beautiful [Tash] that you took my breath away. But luckily I had about eight hours to catch it because we sat around for so long eating sandwiches and waiting to film.
‘I wish we had more photos of Rachel and I lying around on chairs in our bridesmaid dresses sun baking and buzzed on tequila.’
However, in an Instagram comment after the episode aired, she stuck by her opinions on Amanda, writing: ‘First impressions are never wrong.’
During Tuesday’s episode, viewers watched as Ashlee and fellow bridesmaid Rachel confronted Amanda after she ‘snubbed’ them at the reception by spending more time with Tash’s family.
‘[Amanda] is rehearsed and super careful. I think we need to explore what she said in her vows and see if she is hiding anything,’ Ashlee said.
‘She referred to past mistakes [in her vows], I’m definitely going to grill her on what she means by that.’
The two women then approached Amanda and asked her to step outside for a chat.
Amanda hit back saying: ‘I’m a really family person, so it was important I made a good impression on [Tash’s] parents. I hope you can respect that? I am an extremely loyal person and I am quite grounded.’
Ashlee snapped back: ‘Tash is our family. She’s our friend and we’ve known her for so many years. We just want to make sure she is in good hands.
‘You sound so prepared. In your vows, you said you’ve made big mistakes. Did you go to jail for fraud? What happened? That’s where my mind goes.’
Amanda refused to be drawn into an argument, stating: that when she was approached to appear on MAFS, she was in the process of reconnecting with an ex-girlfriend.
‘I was at a crossroads of making it work with her, or choosing the experiment. I thought if I went back to [my ex], I’d go back to what I knew. I wouldn’t have been happy going back to that relationship long-term,’ she explained.
‘Or if I did this [show] I could meet an equal and be happy. Know from the bottom of my heart, I will look after [Tash]. If someone tries to hurt her, they better run.’
