A man has been arrested and charged with the murder of Courtney Herron following the discovery over the weekend of the 25-year-old’s body, which had been brutally bashed, in a popular Melbourne park.

According to 7News the man, who is believed to be 27-years-old and of “no fixed address” was arrested on Sunday and charged with one count of murder after dog walkers discovered Ms Herron’s body in Royal Park, in the Melbourne suburb of Parkville on Saturday morning.
The man is set to appear in Melbourne’s Magistrates Court later on today.
“The level of violence involved here was extreme in my view,” Homicide squad Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said.
“This was a particularly, particularly horrendous attack.”
According to Inspector Stamp, Ms Herron had had experienced issues with drugs and mental illness and had been couch surfing.
