Another day, another dramatic MAFS plot line…but this time it’s really messy.
Fans may have thought the earlier cheating scandal between Claire and Adam, or the phone-number drama between Bronte and Harrison would be the season’s most scandalous storylines, but boy were they wrong.
Thanks to an accidental pocket dial a group of grooms have been caught red-handed – and who is involved may surprise you!
It begins with Evelyn and Rupert
The drama starts when new groom Rupert goes on a “boys’ night” out. During the heavy night of drinking, he accidentally calls his wife, Evelyn.
“They were all on a boy’s night, having some drinks and I got a butt dial from Rupert,” Evelyn explains.
“Naturally, I listened in….and I, unfortunately, heard what two of the husbands were saying about their wives.”
Who was present at this night on the town? Ollie, Rupert, Duncan, Hugo and Dan.
Evelyn then reveals that it was the conversation she heard from Dan which was “disgusting.”
“I kind of had a feeling from the ceremony that Dan was an a*****e, but that cemented my first assumptions,” she explained.
“Some of the husbands in this experiment are very sneaky and manipulative, and I can see quite through it and I feel bad for the wives involved…They need to be called out for it – it’s f****d up.”
Evelyn shares what she learnt with Sandy
“I have to say something to Sandy,” determined Evelyn. “I’m nervous but I know at the end of the day its the right thing to do.”
With Sandy and Dan already struggling with their relationship, the news from Evelyn adds fuel to the fire.
“He was insinuating that he was too good for this experiment and too good for you,” explains Evelyn, before she reveals that Dan was showing photos of his ex-partners and boasting about how “hot” they were.
Sandy, who was originally told by Dan that he spent the evening with his daughter was rightfully devastated.
“I’m so glad you told me this because I thought I was going crazy, Sandy explained. “I’m done trying to protect who he really is.”
A heated dinner party
The dinner party saw the drama implode with both Dan and Hugo forced to face the music.
For Hugo, whilst the night was uncomfortable and his relationship definitely still on rocky territory, he used the dinner party to apologise for his actions.
For Dan, it was a different story.
“There’s nothing that I’ve said to anybody else that I haven’t said to Sandy,” he explained before sharing his version of events.
“We had a bit of a chat about what’s been going on with each other’s partners. I spoke about incompatibilities and some misalignment that we’ve got going on and it’s something that I’ve been talking about with Sandy… we haven’t been able to get on the same page, and it’s been really upsetting.”
“Nothing was said with any kind of ill intent.”
The group – and the experts didn’t quite jump on board with his explanation.
“I do not know how genuine he is,” questioned John as Dan continued to disagree and argue the events of the boy’s night out.
Things went from bad to worse when Dan revealed his recent intimate moments with Sandy to the group in an attempt to highlight the effort he was making in the relationship.
“I just can’t believe he said that in front of everyone else,” a shocked Sandy told the camera. “I don’t want to talk about my personal sex life – that is a boundary for me because in my culture it’s not talked about at all and Dan knows that. That in itself was a betrayal to me.”
Is it all fake?
Since the explosive accidental phone call fans have been questioning the validity of the drama.
Whilst we admit it is possible to accidentally call someone, was it possible for Evelyn to hear that much detail?
Well, now we might have the answer.
Daily Mail Australia got their hands on lead text messages that cast doubt on one of the season’s most shocking storylines. In the supposed texts, Dan is questioning Rupert’s version of events, revealing that the phone call times don’t match up with when they were talking and that the loud venue would have made it impossible for Evelyn to hear clearly.
A MAFS producer also revealed to So Dramatic! That the whole storyline was “orchestrated by producers to blindside Dan.”
“Alex and Molly (the head producers of MAFS) orchestrated a fake ‘butt-dial’ situation where one of the brides Evelyn overhears the conversation at the bar,” the source explained.
“Evelyn agreed because she was essentially a producer’s puppet, happy to do whatever they needed her to do in return for favourable airtime.”
The Commitment Ceremony
No surprise here! Sandy and Dan’s relationship couldn’t be mended following the accidental butt-dial of the season.
At the commitment ceremony, Dan doubled down on what he believed to be the key factor in their relationship not working: That Sandy didn’t like the beach.
“My heart and my mind had been at conflict because that was one of the big things for me was having somebody that could share that with me,” he attempted to explain.
“Dan, a key ingredient to a healthy relationship is not the love of an ocean,” Expert John shot back.
“You might not be on the same page about water but there are a lot of more important ingredients to a healthy relationship, things like values, communication styles and time together versus time apart, admiration, praise…”
Finally, it was time for the couple to reveal if they wanted to stay or leave the experiment, and unsurprisingly they both chose to leave.
