After taking her breath away in a series of romantic gestures during Monday’s episode of Married At First Sight, Michael’s heart was shattered when Martha told him she struggled to foresee a future outside the experiment.
“I want to make her smile, I want to make her happy – I want her to rememeber this forever,” Michael told producers.
But the mood soon went south.
After gifting her a pair of earrings and expressing his “deep down” feelings for her, Martha told Michael she couldn’t guarantee a future with him.
“My problem is when we’re out of the experiment like, what’s going to happen,” she said.
“We live interstate. We don’t live next to each other, we’re not a half an hour drive from each other… that’s the only thing that I am a bit scared about.”
“But how do you think that’s going to negatively impact our relationship?” Michael asked, remaining positive.
Martha immediately responded, “well how do you think it’s not? How do you think it’s going to have no impact?”
Seeming a little lost for words, Michael sat back in his chair.
“These are the things that are going to test us, I feel like we haven’t truly been tested yet,” she continued.
“I’m seeing glass half full and you’re seeing glass half empty,” Michael responded. “You’re saying this is what could go wrong and these are all the negatives, I’m not going to open up because of this and this in our real life – and I’m sitting here saying we’ve got through the hardest part of it.”
But Martha couldn’t let it go.
“I’m scared to say too much and promise like… I don’t know.”
Michael hit back, “I’ve given you everything. I’ve given you me because I want this to work.”
“If you’re not confident going out of the experiment with me – then what are we doing?”
