You would think throwing together some picnic food would be a piece of cake compare to some of the challenges the MasterChef contestants have been dealt over the past few weeks.
However, Wednesday night’s challenge, which involved the remaining competitors making a picnic for hundreds of guests descended into chaos – with the red team, led by Anushka Zargaryan failing to finish their hampers in time.
‘The Red team’s food will just taste of stress and disarray! I think you can really taste emotions in food,’ said one Twitter user.
With judge Gary Mehigan watching on, the contestants became increasingly flustered and frustrated.
‘Where is the bread?’ Tati Carlin quizzed her teammate Simon Toohey.
‘The bread is there in the ‘open your eyes’ section!’ came Simon’s withering response.
Meanwhile, fellow teammate Abbey Rose became so overwhelmed at one point that she started crying.
‘I’m spending an embarrassing amount of time on this – we’re about to feed a whole load of people and I don’t want to serve them something that’s not good,’ she said.
As for the judge’s opinions, guest judge Maggie Beer ended up being impressed with the hummus, but wasn’t a fan of the fig and onion salad.
‘You’ve lost those beautiful individual flavours because there’s so much there. It’s such a shame because there’s so many nice flavours there.’
