The upcoming Spice Girls tour has been thrown into disarray after Mel B was rushed to hospital last week after completely losing her eyesight.
The 43-year-old was whisked to London’s Moorefields Eye Hospital wearing an eye patch and in severe pain, according to reports in The Sun. A source at the hospital claims the Spice Girl was “frantic and screaming”, saying “I can’t see anything – I’m totally blind”.
The singer – who cannot see out of her left eye due to botched laser eye surgery in 2014 – is believed to have now also lost sight in her right eye.
“Mel was frantic and screaming that she couldn’t see a thing. She went to the hospital in a chauffeur-driven car with an assistant, who was holding her hand,” they continued, adding, “No one knew what brought it on but she had very swift, and very good, treatment.”
Although the singer was transferred to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for further specialist treatment, which resulted in the sight in the star’s right eye being restored, it is believed Mel B went against doctors’ advice and discharged herself from hospital the same day in order to join her fellow bandmates for rehearsals of their world tour.
A Spice Girls spokeswoman confirmed: “The situation is under control and she has received treatment. She is back in rehearsals and is looking forward to the tour starting next week.”
