Meshel Laurie revealed over the weekend that her family racked up a $1000 credit card bill…because of her nine-year-old son!
Listen below to Meshel Laurie’s heartbreaking suicide confession:
Writing for Sunday Life, The Project panellist explained that son Louis – who has a twin sister, Dali – developed an addiction to online gaming which led to the shock debt, and that she blames herself for fuelling his addictive hobby.
‘My nine-year-old son just spent $1,000 on a Counterfeit Domino Crown and some Mid-Summer Horns for the virtual identity he’s created in an online gaming platform,’ the 46-year-old confessed.
Despite giving Louis a $15 limit, the child managed to figure out how to bypass the parental security procedure.
‘I guess it’s our turn to be that family. The one with the big credit card bill thanks to the kid who figured out how to bypass parental sign-in procedures when using the card online.’
Laurie went on to admit she was to blame as she had viewed the game as a way to keep Louis busy.
‘I have to take responsibility for this mess. I allowed him to become obsessed with this terrible game because it kept him occupied.’
He obviously has no idea how much $1,000 is [or] how long a person has to work to earn it.
This isn’t the first time Meshel has opened up about money struggles.
The TV star recently opened up about how she was left ‘broke’ after donating large sums of money to charity following a trip to Africa last year.
‘I sent a lot of money to South Sudan, sent about three times as much as I got paid for the gig on SBS,’ she told McKnight Tonight.
‘And I’m not showing off, because I am now quite broke by the way.’
