The stepson of missing Melbourne mum Karen Ristevski has described the relationship between his father Borce and his stepmother as “fake” according to a police statement seen by the Australian newspaper.
In the statement, Anthony Rickard, who was a teen when he moved in to the Ristevski household, reportedly says the pair only stayed together for money, appearances and their 21-year-old daughter, Sarah.
Rickard, a father of two who is reportedly battling an ice addiction, also suggested that Karen, 47, may have just “run off” six weeks ago, rather than been murdered.
But those close to the businesswoman tell WHO she wouldn’t just walk away.
“Her family is most important to her, especially the love and devotion she has for her daughter Sarah,” says Karen’s cousin Lisa. “They are best friends.”

Rickard, 32, also reportedly told police of a “situation”, which developed between him and his stepmother in the past. Rickard has previously referred to the situation as a family “conflict”, the nature of which has not been disclosed. Two weeks before she disappeared, Rickard said he called Karen to confront her over the matter.
Wearing a black blazer, jeans and carrying a gold Coach handbag and purse on the day she went missing, Karen was last seen at 10 AM on June 29 by Borce, he said, as she left their $1.1 million home in Avondale Heights in Melbourne’s north-west.
Borce, who has been formally interviewed by police as a matter of routine, said his wife left to “clear her head” following a heated argument over money. The couple are partners in formal-wear business Bella Bleu, which is in apparent financial trouble with reported debts as high as $600,000.
Despite an extensive police search, no trace of Karen has yet been found.
