Mythbusters host and race car driver Jessi Combs has been killed in a high-speed crash after attempting to set a new land speed record. She was just 39-years-old.

The American sportswoman and TV personality and been dubbed the “fastest woman on four wheels and had appeared on a number of TV shows besides Mythbusters, including Overhaulin’ and All Girls Garage.

Combs’ family released a statement today, confirming she had died whilst attempting the new record in south-east Oregon, USA.

“Jessi’s most notable dream was to become the fastest woman on Earth, a dream she had been chasing since 2012… one of the rare dreamers with the bravery to turn those possibilities into reality, and she left this Earth driving faster than any other woman in history,” the statement read.

Jessi’s teammate also released a statement paying tribute to the sportswoman.

“Unfortunately we lost her yesterday in a horrific accident, I was the first one there and trust me we did everything humanly possible to save her.”

Jessi’s last Instagram post was a haunting tribute to her supporters.

“I just want to thank all of you for your support and loyalty. That’s all. Have a nice day :)” she wrote alongside a black and white picture of herself with her hands clasped in a prayer gesture.
