While people around the world go into lockdown amidst the alarming spread of the coronavirus, a browser extension that allows users to chat and stream shows and movies together is helping friends and families living apart enjoy a group movie night.

Netflix Party is a Google Chrome extension lets multiple users watch Netflix at the same time. Once a user selects a program to watch, they can send a link to friends to “invite” them to watch the show with them. (Invitees must also have the extension in order to join the party.)

Users download the extension to their computer and select create a ‘Netflix Party’.
This allows them to select other people to join and share a link to the video or show to watch, as well as chat with the group in real-time.

As coronavirus spreads across the globe, many are opting to self-isolate in order to limit the spread of the virus, leaving many holed up in their homes alone.

The feature has actually been in existence for several years but is expected to see a surge in popularity now that several countries around the world are in lockdown.
