Reports have emerged today suggesting the hand injury that saw Johnny Depp postponing production on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in Queensland last year may have been the result of a domestic incident.
Entertainment Tonight claims that sources close to the couple have claimed to them, “Depp injured his hand punching a wall during an argument [he and Heard] had in Australia last March 2015”.
The set of the mega-budget movie had to be shut down while Depp, 52, flew out of Australia to receive medical treatment in the United States. Surgeons inserted a pin into his injured finger bone before filming started again more than a month later.
Seen earlier this week laughing with a friend after a four-hour meeting at a lawyer’s office, Depp’s estranged wife Amber Heard, 30, has released a statement concerning the domestic violence allegations she has made against her husband.
“Amber has suffered through years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Johnny,” the statement reads. “In domestic violence cases, it is not unusual for the perpetrator’s playbook to include miscasting the victim as the villain.”
Continues the strongly-worded statement: “Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money.”
In paperwork submitted to a Los Angeles court and obtained by Entertainment Tonight, the actress alleges, “I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority or disagreed with him.”
On May 31, Depp, who is touring Europe with his band Hollywood Vampires, checked into a $16,000-a-night Stockholm hotel where he reportedly drank cocktails until 2A.M. After Heard’s latest claims, his lawyer Laura Wasser submitted a request to the court, saying the actor “has every intention of staying away from Amber and will stipulate to mutual stay-away and personal conduct orders”.
