He was unceremoniously dumped from the Today show late last year, but it looks as though Nine executives are regretting their decision to axe Karl Stefanovic – who was arguably one of the network’s biggest stars.
A new report from a local publication claims Karl is said to be making a comeback on 60 Minutes following lengthy negotiations with Nine bosses.
WATCH Lisa Wilkinson reveals the moment she told Karl to go “**** himself”:
“Nine has a master plan for Karl,” a TV insider revealed, hinting that the 44-year-old could be returning to 60 Minutes following his stint as a guest reported in 2011.
The publication also reports that Karl’s alleged comeback is all thanks to his good friend, 2GB broadcaster Ray Hadley. The TV star has also recently become a weekly contributor to Steve Price’s afternoon radio show on 2GB.
“The only reason Karl has a lifeline [with the network] is because of Ray. He’s very close to Nine bosses and has been pivotal in Karl’s comeback.”
If the rumours are true, Karl would be joining 60 Minute hosts Tara Brown, Liz Hayes, Charles Wooley, Liam Bartlett and Allison Langdon to co-host the show.
The former Nine star recently opened up on Steve Prince’s radio show about his tough year, admitting “you just got to plough on.”
“The problem is that some people do believe [the reports], and with the fullness of time, you’ve got to hope that they don’t.”
As well has his departure from Nine, the TV star had to deal with cruel comments following his split from wife of 21-years, Cassandra Thorburn in 2016, and his subsequent marriage to shoe-designer Jasmine Yarbrough.
