The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have officially split from the joint charity, the Royal Foundation, that they set up with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
WATCH below to find out exactly why Harry and Meghan have split from William and Kate:
Adding further fuel to rumours of a rift, a royal commentator has spoken out saying that the move demonstrates that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are keen to “do things their own way” and that they “won’t slot into line” and be “controlled by Prince William and wife, Kate Middleton.
“It does seem odd. Why separate when you are both backing the same causes? Whether this is a sign of a rift, this is certainly a sign of a division,” royal commentator Duncan Larcombe told Fabulous Digital.
“It is clear that Meghan and Harry were initially prepared to slot in under the wing of William and Kate but that’s not how they feel a year on.”
The two couples have only made one appearance as a foursome since launching the charity. William, Harry, Kate and Meghan joined forces on stage last year for their charity’s first and only Q&A forum – something which was supposed to be an annual event.
“Harry is going to forge his own path with Meghan. For years, before he met Meghan, he was the royal [third wheel] standing behind William and Kate,” Larcombe continued.
“He’s now a full-time working royal with his wife, he wants autonomy as to what he does, how he does it and how she does it, which is a definite change to how it was 12 months ago.”
