As the fourth in line to the throne, it is perhaps unlikely that Princess Charlotte will one day be the head of the British monarchy. However the spirited four-year-old still holds a pivotal role within the royal family – in fact, Charlotte may one day be the recipient of a very unique and special title.

The daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton is expected to one day hold a very prestigious title. However, there’s a catch: she will only receive it upon the death of another more senior member of the royal family.
While Charlotte currently holds the title Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, the Express reports that she may one day be gifted another title by her great-grandmother, the Queen.
The title Princess Royal is currently held by the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne – and Charlotte could be the next to take it on, but only when Anne dies, as the royal rules state.
Princess Anne, 69, received the title in 1987, and before her, Mary, Countess of Harewood was Princess Royal.
The title of Princess Royal is usually given to the eldest daughter of the monarch, and came into the British royal protocol when Queen Henrietta Maria (1609–1669) wished to imitate the way the eldest daughter of the King of France was styled “Madame Royale”.
